Respite & Repair

Wednesday, June 30
Wasilla, AK

With the van scheduled to be worked on at 2PM we didn't get anything planned for the day and didn't really do anything cool.
I caught up on some business and soon it was time for dinner, and another sampling of gelato.

We did end up replacing the vacuum pump on the van, and the noise on the engine is now gone. A few bucks spent on prevention now will be worth infinitely more in the wilds of Canada. We've had great luck so far in a number of ways including the performance of the van, finding rooms, and connecting with this mechanic.

One of our "better" portraits.

I hope I don't look this bad in real life.

This was taken on the dock by our B&B. I counted 6 float planes on the lake that I could see from where I was on the dock. Understand that owning a float plane compares in cost to owning a Maserati with even higher maintenance and insurance.

We have a B & B near Talkeetna, AK for tomorrow night. That is near Denali. Denali park is as big as the state of Massachusetts, but doesn't allow the bumper to bumper traffic like you see in Yellowstone. You can only drive into the park about 15 miles then everything from there is on their buses and you need to buy tickets for them before hand. Those access roads only go into the park about 93 miles, the rest is wilderness. They have tours from 4-1/2 to 13 hours long. Kernal has no appetite for a day long school bus ride so we don't know how much time we will be there.

We've been in contact with Jason, and plan to get together and get things around for the trip back over the weekend.

Come back for more exciting updates.
